5 Top Self-Care Tips for Spring
As you know, I LOVE anything self-care-focused. Practising self-care can help us maintain a mindful balance in our lives…something we should all strive for. We don’t just need it to live happy lives; we also deserve it. Our lives don’t just revolve around our families, friends or customers; sometimes, we need to put ourselves before everyone else. Plus, it’s much easier to care for everyone and everything in our lives when we care for ourselves too.
So here are five self-care tips that can be incorporated into your spring lifestyle with ease…
Well, this one is easy…or it should be easy! Water is FREE, and it is something that most of us have access to. Did you know that our bodies comprise over 75% water? This means we must constantly be topping up that fluid in our bodies, especially as the seasons change and we become
hotter or do more physical activities. If you aren’t a massive water fan, try throwing in a slice of lemon or another fruit of your choice…as long as it’s water-based, then you are ticking the hydration box! Not only is water needed by our bodies to function correctly, but it is also great for keeping headaches at bay, reducing hunger (I need this), and keeping our skin looking plumper and younger.
I mean, what is there not to like about that?
We all know that getting outside and surrounding ourselves with fresh air and vitamin D is excellent for the mind, body and soul. And it doesn’t have to involve going for a run or hiking up a mountain; it also doesn’t have to involve spending ridiculous amounts of money on kit for a hobby that (let’s be honest) we probably won’t stick with – or is that just me? There are so many beautiful places to visit that don’t cost a penny…country parks, nature reserves, and coastlines. For many of us, there is something nearby that we can access and enjoy. Take a picnic, meet with friends, or maybe go alone and enjoy the peace a solo walk can bring us.
I go crazy when I see people out and about with sunburnt skin…what are you doing?? Our skin is so precious, and we must look after it. It only takes a few small steps to protect it, so let’s all make a conscious decision to make wise choices this spring/summer. We all know that a gorgeous glowing tan can look beautiful, but it also does a lot of damage to our skin. If it’s that important to you, then fake it. There are so many natural-looking products out there nowadays. So, when you are out and about – with the sun shining or not (those UV rays are still behind the clouds) - wack on a good quality sunscreen and don’t forget to reapply every couple of hours. There are also many amazing makeup and lip care products with UV protection built-in, so there are zero excuses not to protect our skin this spring.
This one doesn’t just apply to the warmer months but definitely deserves a mention. In the modern-day world of social media and online everything, it is crucial that we find regular screen-free time. I love my phone as much as the next person, but I know that staring at it too much is unhealthy.
Spring is a much easier time to tear ourselves away from the screens because we tend to have more social plans that take us outdoors and off our bums. It’s so strange how we become so reliant on our phones, yet following an afternoon in the sun with friends, we often realise we haven’t even glanced at them for hours. Why? Because our hearts and souls are filled with something much more rewarding – fun and friendship. So many of us go into hibernation mood over
the winter months. We wrap up in furry pjs and duvets, starving ourselves of vitamin D and company. I am guilty of it too. But once spring arrives, we have a new lease of life. The sun gives us a boost of energy and enthusiasm. So put down your phone this spring and treat yourself to screen-free time – because when I say it’s a treat, I genuinely mean it. Your mind will thank me!
READING AND MEDITATION
You know what I am going to say: so much self-care is FREE! And reading and meditation are two things that can fill us with so much joy and a sense of enrichment. I can often get lost in a good book for hours on end, but sadly most of us don’t get the opportunity. You know that feeling when you have just started a new chapter, and someone walks into the room? You want to scream and maybe use a swear word or two, but we can’t go around behaving like that. If you can find half an hour in your busy day and want to fill it with something just for you, reading or meditation should be at the top of the list. In fact, I’m off to read a good book now…
Remember, you deserve this.
Self-care ideas for spring don’t need to take a lot of time or effort! And some of the ones on my list are completely FREE. Spending a bunch of money is not always necessary, so I don’t want to hear any excuses. Remember that self-care is about indulging in things you enjoy and saying no to things you don’t. We all need to do a little bit more of that this year. Are you going to join me?
If you want to treat yourself to something more indulgent (because we really should now and then), why not come and see the full range of gorgeous gift boxes we have available on our website. Remember that they aren’t just gifts for other people…you deserve to spoil yourself too. Why not? Go on! Treat yourself!
Till next time,
