7 Practical Ways to Pamper Yourself at Home in 2023
January is rarely the most exciting month in everyone’s calendar. It is often cold and wet, and for many, a time when finances can be a bit tight. Wow, that’s an upbeat way to start a blog…but bear with me! Let’s change this! Let’s make the new year a time for happiness and peace.
We shouldn’t be relying on unrealistic goal setting to make us happy; instead, we should be making plans that we know we can and will stick to and that are achievable – like self-care.
Self-care is inexpensive and easily accessible, AND we can all find ten minutes a day to do it. Every single one of us deserves that. Most people have no idea that self-care comes in many forms. It doesn’t necessarily mean scheduling visits to a spa or weekend breaks abroad, I mean it can be. Don’t get me wrong, but time or money needed for extravagant things shouldn’t be a reason not to look after yourself. There are so many aspects of self-care that we need to focus on in our everyday lives, but today we are going to focus on my favourite…pure indulgent pampering!
Bubbles…of whatever kind!
Who doesn’t like a bubble bath? A long hot soak in a bubble bath is pure bliss. Not only does it relax your body physically, but it is also medicine for the mind. It lifts our mood and makes us feel happy and content. A survey completed by yougov.co.uk showed that over a third of women take regular baths to unwind at the end of the day. To many people, a bath is symbolic of relaxation; it is a little treat for us…well, as long as the rest of the family leaves us alone. All we need is candles, music, a book, and maybe a glass of wine or more. A bath is a time to focus on ourselves, physically and mentally. We must find a little more time for bubbles in 2023. Bring it on!
Applying a face mask is a great way to relax, and the best thing about it is that you can do it anywhere…in the bath, lying on your bed, or even watching Netflix. It’s a pamper you can do on the go, so there are no excuses. Face masks will help you to de-stress, making you look and feel better.
Whether you use a cream or a sheet mask, you’ll feel great while it works its magic. The main aim of a face mask is to deep clean pores, cleansing them off dead skin cells and oily substances that can clog them; they also bring moisture and hydration to dry and dehydrated skin types. Regular skin masks reduce the signs of ageing by encouraging firmer, tighter, fresher-looking skin. And who wouldn’t want that? In fact, I might order a bulk load as we speak…
Bath salts are a unique mineral mixture that is added to your bathwater. All you need to do is sprinkle them in and then immerse yourself in the soothing water with a glass of wine; the latter is optional, of course! Whatever way you enjoy your bath, make sure it is time to relax and unwind. Long hot baths, with the added addition of bath salts, are not only pleasurable; they can also provide relief from stress, joint and muscle pain, skin complaints…the list goes on.
The reason why candles are a popular gift for loved ones, or even ourselves, is simple. They offer a sense of comfort and tranquillity. They are beautiful and soothing and induce a feeling of calm. And above all else, most candles emit the most beautiful fragrance. Smell is the first sense to trigger emotions and memories, so when that first aroma hits our nose, our mind explodes with positive thoughts and feelings of good times. So next time you take a bath, light a candle. It is simple but can induce the sense of happiness we all need more of in our lives. Maybe don’t stop at one – fill the whole room and create your very own spa at home.
Meditation and Yoga
The human mind can often come under pressure in a world of daily stress, anxiety and expectation. This can directly affect our mood, making us less positive and questioning our thoughts and decisions. Modern-day life has a lot to answer for, sadly. Meditation has a rich and calming effect on the human body and is said to clear our minds and induce feelings of peace and awareness.
Mindfulness meditation encourages us to observe our thoughts as they drift through the mind. The benefit of meditation is the liberation of the mind from attachment to things it cannot control. The aim is to maintain a calm mind and sense of inner harmony. Why not give it a try?
Treats…all the treats!
Apparently, a dog is a man’s best friend, and for girls is chocolate. I know we shouldn’t stereotype, but this sounds pretty accurate to me. I definitely have a sweet tooth. So, eat the treats…eat ALL the treats and forget the calories. The diet can start tomorrow!
If you want the ultimate pamper but can only choose one thing, then that is simple: choose sleep. Sleep holds the answers to so many things. It allows our body and mind to recharge, leaving us feeling refreshed and alert. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly. This can impact our ability to concentrate and think clearly.
Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. How you feel while awake partly depends on what happens while you are sleeping. During sleep, your body supports healthy brain function and maintains physical health. So, when you get the opportunity to grab all them zzzzs, go for it. I promise you will reap the benefits…you can thank me later.
